New Conference, No Problem for Panthers Volleyball

BY JOHN OTANO

The Northeast-10 is the new home to Adelphi this season and Adelphi Volleyball is making themselves right at home.

The Panthers pushed their perfect record in the Northeast-10 to 8-0 in conference play and 16-6 overall with a win over Assumption on Saturday, October 10th. The Panthers are winners of their last 8 contests.

Junior Hilary Pavels, who was recently named Northeast-10 player of the week (9/28), leads the assault with 202 kills on the year. Despite losing players that have etched their legacy into the record books here at Adelphi, this years team isn’t short on players that have assaulted some of the same records.

Going into this season, Senior Amy Williams continues to build upon her all-time digs record at Adelphi in her final season with 1,362 digs. Williams has amassed nearly 258 digs that is slightly ahead of Pavels for the team lead in digs. Junior Heather Mau is currently adding to her 1,438 assists which ranks 4th on the all-time Career assists leaders at Adelphi. Along with Panther Seniors Anna Gabbard, who is second on the team in kills with 158, and Senior Audrey Goss who has compiled 91 kills, leads a team that continues to steamroll over the Northeast-10.

“I want to win the Northeast-10. I want to make a splash as soon as we get in,” says Goss.

The Panthers look to stretch their winning streak to 9 games when they travel to Waltham, Massachusetts on October 16th for a date with Bentley.
