Amy Williams Spotlight
BY JOHN OTANO
Amy Williams, senior, is a Business Management major and an integral part of the Volleyball team at Adelphi University. In 2008, Williams, from Bloomington, Indiana, was selected to the East Coast Conference third-team to go along with an ACVA Division II All Regional Selection. This season for the Panthers, Williams leads the team in digs (516) and digs per game at nearly four digs a game.
Q: Why did you choose to be a Panther?
“At the last minute I decided that I wanted to play college volleyball. I toured some schools in the Northeast and I liked Adelphi the best. I wanted to be close to New York City.”
Q: What is the best thing about being a member of the Volleyball team?
“My teammates. Hands down. They are some of the most amazing, fun people to be around. They just bring really great energy. They’re the people that can pick me up after a bad day.”
Q: What is your favorite thing to do on campus? Off campus?
“On campus, spending time with my teammates. While off campus, I enjoy going to the city.”
Q: Who has influenced you most academically and athletically?“
"My parents. Definitely. They’ve always been my support system. They rock.”
Q: What is your most embarrassing moment in sports?
“I have had many embarrassing moments in sports. I can tell you my last embarrassing moment was last weekend during one of our games. I got aced on. That happens commonly so it’s not really a big deal but the fact is I thought a ball was out. It was very much in bounds so that was pretty embarrassing. Pretty embarrassing.”
Q: What is your most memorable moment in sports?
“Qualifying the NCAA’s in my sophomore year. That was the first year that’d I’ve ever been exposed to that level of competition. It was the first year that our volleyball program at Adelphi had ever made the NCAA’s.”
Q: Most recently played songs on your iPod:
“A big mish-mosh of randomness. Ingram Michaelson- Morning Lullabies, I love that song. The Beatles- Across the Universe. Empire State of Mind- Jay-Z and Alicia Keys. I like the band The Muse.
Q: Four favorite foods:
“ I like Kimchi. It’s a Korean spiced cabbage. Cheesecake. Burritos. I’m getting hungry as I speak”
Q: Three things you would want to have if you were stranded on a desert island
“I have no idea. I’d want a boat. Get me off of that island.”
Q: Two things you would change about Adelphi:
“It’d be very nice if our meal cards would work off-campus. Being a resident, we’re mandated to buy a meal plan. It’d be nice to go down the street to Adelphi Deli and it could be used there instead of solely with the monopoly of Lackman. It would be nice to dine in the close Garden City community. I think if you’re going to be in a dorm, also, suite style dorms are very nice instead of having communal bathrooms.”
Q: One favorite hobby:
“I love traveling. I’m a traveler. I was born in Germany and lived in Korea. I lived in Europe and I’m studying in Italy next semester.”
