Women Basketball Continues to Struggle

Coach Kelley Watts called the Northeast 10, "the toughest conference for Division II basketball." The Panthers are finding out exactly what their head coach meant by this through the first four games of the season.

The Panthers are currently (0-3) in Northeast-10 conference play while stumbling to an (0-4) record overall. Despite solid play from Theresa Foley and Ashley Caiafa, the Panthers are suffering from the inability to rebound the basketball. They currently are being out rebounded by an average of 14 boards a game. If Coach Watts and company are to end this losing streak, it must start with being aggressive on the boards.

Men's Lacrosse Helps Give Away 3,500 Turkeys To The Community

Members of the team joined up with Mid Island Collision on November 25.

Garden City, N.Y. -

On Wednesday, November 25, members of the Adelphi University men's lacrosse team teamed up with Bob Jesberger, the owner of Mid Island Collision in Rockville Centre, N.Y., to help give away 3,500 turkeys, canned goods, and warm clothes to the neediest families of the local Long Island community.

"It was a great chance for us to do something nice and to help those who really need it," said sophomore attack man Joe Vitale.

Following the day's events the team was left with fifteen turkeys and in an effort to see them all be distributed, the team then transported and donated the remaining turkey's to the Boys and Girls Club in Hempstead, N.Y. and The Salvation Army.

"It was a great chance to hand out food and remember why we celebrate Thanksgiving," said sophomore defenseman Nick Mastronardi. "It also wound up being a workout lifting that many turkeys into trucks and vans, and it will be one Thanksgiving that I will always remember."

When summarizing the day's events, third-year head coach Gordon Purdie added:"It was exciting to see so many players giving and sharing their time to help others. At the end of the day we as a team were reminded of what Thanksgiving is truly all about."

Men's Basketball

The 2009-2010 Men's Basketball team is off to a fast start this season as they are undefeated in their first five games, going 3-0 in Northeast 10 conference play. Much of their success this season can be due in part to the elevated play of Guard Richard Byrd, who is averaging close to 23 points a game.

The Men's team will look to continue their winning ways tonight against Southern Connecticut State.
