Members of the team joined up with Mid Island Collision on November 25.
Garden City, N.Y. -
On Wednesday, November 25, members of the Adelphi University men's lacrosse team teamed up with Bob Jesberger, the owner of Mid Island Collision in Rockville Centre, N.Y., to help give away 3,500 turkeys, canned goods, and warm clothes to the neediest families of the local Long Island community.
"It was a great chance for us to do something nice and to help those who really need it," said sophomore attack man Joe Vitale.
Following the day's events the team was left with fifteen turkeys and in an effort to see them all be distributed, the team then transported and donated the remaining turkey's to the Boys and Girls Club in Hempstead, N.Y. and The Salvation Army.
"It was a great chance to hand out food and remember why we celebrate Thanksgiving," said sophomore defenseman Nick Mastronardi. "It also wound up being a workout lifting that many turkeys into trucks and vans, and it will be one Thanksgiving that I will always remember."
When summarizing the day's events, third-year head coach Gordon Purdie added:"It was exciting to see so many players giving and sharing their time to help others. At the end of the day we as a team were reminded of what Thanksgiving is truly all about."
